Melbourne named top tech city in Australia::

Melbourne has been named Australia's top tech city with its combination of good infrastructure, business environment, talent pool and lifestyle.

Savills' Tech Cities 2017 report revealed Melbourne's offerings make it an ideal Australian base for tech companies, with its liveability placing it among other global cities like Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Toronto, and above more established tech rivals.

Melbourne ranked eighth in the report's liveability index.  This included high rankings in "buzz" (nightlife, entertainment, culture) and "wellness" (pollution levels, parks, healthcare, commuting times), along with cost of living.

The report noted increased focus on physical and mental wellbeing among today's workers could dominate their decision-making.

This latest report follows the State Government of Victoria's announcement that Texas-based software firm AgileCraft would open its Asia Pacific headquarters in Melbourne.

Melbourne is Australia's technology hub and is home to more than half of Australia's top 20 technology companies. Victoria's ICT industry has over 8,000 companies, including many international firms such as IBMMicrosoft and Intel.
